-Star continued to be pretty impossible, and the hour drew near. I knew what was likely going to happen and began to get out of my clothes, setting all my precious robes and enchanted belongings behind some books and dressing in my simple tunic and pants. Finally when I saw Gia wouldnt hear any of the evidence until I was at her mercy I gave up and gave a copy of the confession to her along with a note explaining everything, begging her to give it to Xavier so that Xavier could see that justice was done even if I ended uo being killed. One of the papers was an explanation of what had happened and the other was a confession that proved the truth of the first paper.
Siona came down to see me, surprisingly not as gloaty as usual, and I pleaded with her to speak to Gia and tell her the contents of a letter. To Siona I gave the original confession as well as the only other copy of my note with one small addendum.
Regardless the appointed hour came. I was frightened, even if I didn't wish to admit it. The drow entered and I thought of my best chance for escape, the silverfire teleport. But I couldnt do that to my friends here, or to Gia. She no doubt wanted something from me, and I couldnt very well deny helping a widow, even if it was asked for in the oddest way.
The darts hit quickly and took effect, paralysing my motions. But that wasn't the end of it. They hadnt used the sleeping darts, I could come out of that. They wanted to make sure my mind was asleep as well as my body, and one of the priestesses poured a foul tasting liquid down my throat, some sort of alchemical substance to dull my thoughts, blur my perceptions and seperate my mind from my body. They checked me for reactions by poking me with pins, and when they found none they began to haul me off, careful to avoid my drool laden mouth. They didnt even bother with chains, those would just damage the prize and make me heavier to carry about. Besides, they took a measure of enjoyment in the fact that I knew that I could walk away if my own body and mind would simply obey.
They brought me before the Matron for inspection, and from there took to the road down to Navere, carrying me covered on a bier and being none too careful about bumps in the road. I was to arrive fairly unblemished, but no one would notice a few bruises. Xavier and her entourage were likely given the means to follow with special precautions being made for Xavier due to her conditions, such as one of the drow drift discs.
The precession to Navere would be unmolested and quiet, except for the occasional inany babble from me and the muttering of the guards set to look after me-
The two notes, one a confession written in drow and poor common, was written by a drow female, the other, an explanation of what was going on, was written by me.
The confession read:
"To whomsoever may wish to know,
I was a priestess at Arach Tinliith in Rivven Cheel. However my guilt will no longer allow me to remain there. The high priestess and others there, myself included, were given foreknowledge of the murder of Valkryn, the consort of Matron Gia Navere. It was a test of our faith, and we all chose to remain quiet by the order of the high priestess.
The high priestess agreed to aid in the fall of House Navere if she could become Matron afterwards and gain the magical items taken from Valkryn's corpse. She sent a drow judicator by the name of Si'nayne to a house in Menzobaranzan, house Dalharuk, to tell them that the favor of Lolth was against Navere and to prepare to attack. I am only thankful that she did not succeed.
The other priestesses at the temple of Arach Tinliith followed orders and kept quiet, it is the high priestess who is most culpable. I know of no others who participated, as those within house Navere were told nothing of what was to happen. I left Navere shortly after Valkryn's death, while the priesthood was still in confusion. Lolth will not tell us whether or not the weapons master is in her custody or not.
This is the confession of Mehandra Dra'ggul, freely given under no coercion while residing with a house that need not be named."
The next note was from Drew:
"To Siona (the other one would be to Xavier)
I want you to know about what is happening in Navere. To start off with, when Xavier was attacked, it was by men working for a house in Menzobaranzan, house Dalharuk. I fought them and captured one of their nobles, the third boy I believe.
I worked out a deal with him, and began to gain information. By increasing his influence in the house I learned of a plot against Valkryn and Navere itself. I came to warn Valkryn, but he refused to listen or set up a meeting with Gia. In truth I think he simply knew what had to happen and was resigned to die to restore Lolth's favor to Navere.
By chance I was in Navere when Valkryn was murdered. I tried to help console Gia and keep her from falling in the puddles of blood. Though I was nearly spent I used what little I had left in me to hide the signs of Valkryn's death in the Arena of Blades-- his cloak and his sword -- so that Gia would not be reminded of what had happened and so that Valas, Valkryn's heir, could retrieve them. I asked a servant to tell the first boy where they were.
Apparently they were never found. The confession included here gives a good clue as to who stole them, which will be further proof of her guilt when they are found. It was obtained by associates of mine under conditions that I assume were humane and just for one who had betrayed her own home and saught to seal the death of the ruling family for personal gain.
In this light I hope that my actions do not look criminal or harmful. I owe Matron Navere my life and desire to help her through this. I have also asked to be apprenticed to her house sorceress. I do not need a death sentence or enslavement over my head to do this, in fact it would only be a detriment to my efforts, as well as that I am already claimed by at least ten beings.
I beg the mercy of Matron Navere, and also wish to state that I have done what I did to aid her and her family. I hope this will be taken to account and not the actions in Dragonshire, where another member of Navere was outlawed for a time just as I am.
(The letter to Xavier would end here, but the one for Siona continued:)
Siona, I don't expect you to save me. I doubt Gia wishes to kill me, but if I must go to my death please see that Marquie takes all of my belongings and holdings. Love, your Drew.
